Kat Jones has over 14 years of global communications and marketing experience in digital and traditional fields, and has consistently delivered quality PR outcomes for companies such as Marvel, Machinima, DEFY Media, and Azubu.
At the end of 2018, she founded Motiv PR
(www.motivpr.com), a communications partner focused on working with outliers, ground-breakers and emerging technologies to develop and share one of a kind stories that engage audiences. Prior to starting Motiv PR, Kat was VP, Communications at DEFY Media, where she ran all communications strategies for DEFY as well as the consumer brands under the DEFY umbrella, including SMOSH, Clevver, and ScreenJunkies, amongst others. Before joining DEFY Media, she ran global communications for live streaming video platform and Twitch competitor Azubu, developing their overall brand strategy and executing PR plans across different regions, including the UK, Brazil, Korea, and the US. Prior to that, Kat was at Machinima, one of the leading multi-channel networks on YouTube, where she started out running marketing and communications for their entertainment programming, then evolved into a leadership role overseeing communications and PR for the company, which included the overarching brand as well as programming, product, and channel launches.
Before heading into the digital world, Kat held multiple roles at Marvel Entertainment, home to the biggest and most beloved superheroes in the world. She started off helping in the promotions and retail business development departments before transitioning over to the animation and television department, managing marketing for Marvel’s globally distributed animated movies and TV series.
Kat has a degree in communications from Sonoma State University, and studied literature in Florence, Italy.
