Scott Shane is a Senior Investment Director at Sony Ventures. Based in his hometown of Los Angeles, Scott’s investment focus centers on championing technologies that drive the future of entertainment and gaming, especially those where Sony can contribute value to the early-stage startup ecosystem.
Scott's dedication to driving innovation in the entertainment and gaming sectors took root during his tenure as Vice President, Corporate Legal at Sony Pictures Entertainment, spanning from June 2013 to August 2022. In this role, Scott supported Sony’s corporate development team in connection with M&A, joint venture and other investment transactions. Scott was also integrally involved with various innovation initiatives within Sony. This unique vantage point provided him with key insight into the pulse of the entertainment industry, which now enriches his investment approach.
Prior to joining Sony, Scott was a lawyer and in-house counsel with several leading law firms and corporations in the U.S. In these roles, he represented private equity and venture capital funds and their portfolio companies, as well as smaller public and private companies in leveraged acquisitions, securities offerings, financings, restructurings and general corporate and securities work.
Scott is a graduate of the University of Colorado Boulder, earning a B.A. in International Affairs and Economics, and later obtaining a J.D. from Pepperdine Law.
