Lois Vossen is Founding and Executive Producer of Independent Lens, a weekly PBS series featuring 22 original documentaries and 7 encore broadcasts each season. She is responsible for commissioning new films, programming the series, and working with filmmakers on content, editorial, and broadcast issues. Independent Lens has received 17 Emmy Awards, 17 George Foster Peabody Awards, 5 Alfred I. duPont-Columbia Journalism Awards, 8 Academy Award nominations, and was honored with the 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2017 IDA Award for Best Series. Previously, Vossen was Associate Managing Director of the Sundance Film Festival and Sundance Labs. She has served on the jury at SXSW, DOC New Zealand, Toronto International Film Festival, and New Orleans Film Festival, among others. She serves on the Television Academy Board of Governors as a governor for the documentary branch. Independent Lens films include I Am Not Your Negro, The Invisible War, TOWER, Trapped, Best of Enemies, The Invisible War, (T)ERROR, The Trials of Muhammad Ali, The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution, Unrest, Dolores, and Won't You Be My Neighbor? and The King (2018 Sundance premieres), among many others.
