Kathryn Nelson serves as Executive Producer, News Content for ABC News. In this role, Nelson oversees daily news operations and leads editorial coverage for distribution across ABC News’ entire digital suite including ABCNews.com, the ABC News mobile apps, social media, OTT streaming services and emerging platforms.
In 2018 Nelson was a driver in launching ABC News Live, a free 24/7 breaking news and live events streaming channel, and “On Location,” a daily, vertical-format news show created exclusively for Facebook Watch. She has also been responsible for the comprehensive coverage of breaking news and special events on ABC News digital platforms – including the 2018 midterm elections, exclusive interviews with Michael Cohen, James Comey, Melania Trump and Michelle Obama, hurricanes Irma, Florence and Michael and deaths of Sen. John McCain and President George H.W. Bush. Under her leadership video views have averaged more than 900 million each month across ABC News platforms.
Prior to joining ABC News in 2017, Nelson was News Director at HuffPost, where she focused on national and international news coverage, business and editorial partnerships, VR and 360-video integration and social impact initiatives, campaigns and events. She has also held positions at the New York Daily News, The Associated Press, The Cambodia Daily and The Arizona Republic.
Nelson is a member of the Asian American Journalists Association and Online News Association. She was a 2016 Punch Sulzberger Executive Leadership Program fellow at Columbia University and is a Chips Quinn Scholars Program alum.
Nelson attended the University of Kansas. Originally from Minnesota, she currently resides in Brooklyn, N.Y.
